A Boys weekend begins

After nearly 2 months of planning, and 2.5 days after returning from our Easter holiday, I was off again. I say I, because this trip was without Tracy (and Kayla). I had arranged with Peter that I would take Tyler and Dylan to Coobowie in the van, and we would have a fish fest for 5 days. Peter was due to fly back home on Friday morning and would meet us there either late Friday night or very early Saturday morning.
Tracy was working today, so I arranged (ok... Tracy arranged -thank you), to have some friends look after Kayla from late morning until Tracy could pick her up after work. This turned into a sleep over which gave Tracy a night home on her own. We left home right on the dot of 11:30, which was exactly as planned and started the long trek.
Coming from the Hills, it takes almost exactly an hour to get to Waterloo Corner, and then the "2.5 hour journey" begins. Unless of course you stop at Dublin and buy some pies for lunch because you were too lazy to make it earlier.
We arrived at spot on 3:30 Friday afternoon to find some beautiful Autumn weather and lush green grassy sites.
It took a whole lot less time to set up with a very eager Dylan helping with everything, not because he wanted to, but because he wanted to go fishing. I managed to delay him long enough to cook an early tea of hamburgers (chicken patties actually) but he was in the car ready to go before I had finished mine. We went to Wool bay for some squidding , getting there just as last light was disappearing at 6:15. I threw a jig out to show Dylan how it was done, warning him of the shallow water and difficulty with night fishing of any kind , only to catch a squid as I was winding it in. This sent his parent diagnosed OCD into overdrive, completely beside himself that someone else caught something before he did, AND  on his fishing rod (an early birthday present). Turns out that was the only squid in the water and no more were caught to accompany what could have been a decent late night snack.
We got back to the van, and before I knew it, they were both cleaned up and in bed asleep. Finally I get to relax and have a drink whilst watching The Power demolish Carlton.
